Pharmacological Evaluation Of CNS Depressant Activity Of Hydroalcoholic Extract Of Artocarpus Heterophyllus Lam Seeds In Rats
Abstract
Our goal here is to find out how well a hydro-alcoholic extract of Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam. seeds depresses the
central nervous system in rats.
Methods: The central nervous system depressant activity was assessed using the following tests: muscle coordination,
locomotor activity, forced swimming, and tail suspension. The parameter that was analyzed was immobility time.
Additionally, anti-oxidant measures such as the SOD, CAT, and GSH assays were used to assess the CNS depressing
action.
When compared with the control group in muscle coordination, locomotor activity, forced swimming, and tail
suspension tests, the hydro-alcoholic extract of seeds from Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam. demonstrated significant
central nervous system depressant activity at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, respectively (*p < 0.05 and **p < 0.01).
Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam. may have CNS depressive qualities, as shown by its enhanced anti-oxidant actions.
Conclusion: Additional study is necessary to determine the precise mechanism of action of the hydro-alcoholic extract
of Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam. seeds, which may have features of central nervous system depressants.
