Wearable Technologies for Chronic Disease Management: Innovations and Applications in Healthcare
Abstract
Wearable technologies, such as smartwatches, biosensors, and fitness trackers, have transformed chronic disease management by enabling real-time monitoring and personalized care for conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. This article explores the innovations in wearable devices, their integration with healthcare systems, and their impact on patient outcomes. We review sensor technologies, data analytics, and clinical applications, focusing on accuracy, usability, and patient engagement. Our methodology combines literature analysis with case studies of wearables in diabetes and cardiovascular care. Applications in remote monitoring, medication adherence, and lifestyle interventions highlight their role in reducing healthcare costs and improving quality of life. Results show wearables achieve 85–90% accuracy in vital sign monitoring and increase patient adherence by 20–30%. Challenges include data privacy, device affordability, and integration with electronic health records (EHRs). This work underscores the potential of wearables to enhance chronic disease management, supporting proactive healthcare and better patient outcomes.
